The Second Annual Run in the Rocks 5K Run/Walk event was held on a perfectly clear fall morning on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Lucerne Valley High School. Oak Hills resident Michael Buckhoff, 58, won the race with a time of 19 minutes, 9 seconds.
Sponsored by the Mitsubishi Cement Corporation Education Foundation and the Lucerne Valley USD, the fundraiser raises money for Lucerne Valley 5th graders to attend Science Camp in Big Bear Lake. Each year, the MCCEF contributes more than $40,000 a year toward the campers and the school district. Previously the MCCEF hosted a Ride in the Rocks event that took mountain bike riders of various abilities on scenic courses near the high school. The longer race took rider up hills just below the mines. Saturday’s two-lap run/walk course took participants in back of the campus and back to the school quad.
