Continuing its quest to attract the best substitute teachers available in the High Desert, the Lucerne Valley USD on Thursday, September 14 increased its substitute teacher rates to $225 a day. An additional $10 per day will be added for long term assignments when a substitute teacher remains in the same classroom after 20 consecutive days.
“This will keep us competitive,” Superintendent Peter Livingston said during the recent school board meeting. “I firmly believe we need to do this. We have some good subs now.”
The board action also moved the district away from a tiered substitute pay system and keeps it in line with other area school districts. Earlier this year, the district’s Board of Trustees approved an increase to $180 a day for the first 20 days. The recent boost represents a $45 increase this year to ensure the district’s high standards.
The substitute teacher rate increase will become effective September 21.
