The Lucerne Valley Unified School District has purchased a new electric school bus. Using grant funds from the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District, the All-Electric Model Blue Bird T3RE 3904 vehicle was bought from a Colton-based bus sales company for around $400,000. The purchase was approved by the district’s Board of Trustees on April 14th.
In June of 2019, MDAQMD grants covered the entire cost of three new electric school buses for two area school districts. Two went to the Apple Valley Unified School District and the other found a home with the Lucerne Valley Unified School District. The $1.3 million in grant funds was part of state incentives created through Assembly Bill 617, designed to identify the areas of most need for pollution reduction specific to individual communities.
