Elementary school teacher Tatyana Maurice and food services worker Christy Rees were named Lucerne Valley Unified School District Employees of the Month during the district’s monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees on Thursday, April 8.
Superintendent Peter Livingston presented the awards followed by congratulations by school board members during the meeting held at Lucerne Valley Middle High School’s Media Center.
Tatyana Maurice, Certificated
Currently, Mrs. Maurice is completing her 2nd year at the school site as a 2nd-grade teacher.
“In that short amount of time, Tatyana has grown into a collaborative team member and fine educator,” said Mr. Livingston, sharing comments from her award nominator. “Mrs. Maurice strives to create memorable moments for her students in the learning process, and she is passionate about meeting the needs of all of her students.”
Mrs. Maurice sets high expectations for her students, which they achieve because the students know she cares about their academic success. Her classroom is well organized and always has a warm, welcoming tone.
“Students feel loved in that classroom and are often engaged in the various activities she has planned for the day. She is well-liked by staff, students, and parents. She is always willing to share with her colleagues her knowledge of technology and curriculum.”

Sharing the words of her nominator, Mr. Livingston said, “Christy is a fabulous employee, a huge asset to the Food Service Department and is deserving of this award of recognition.
“Christy arrives every day with a smile on her face and a happy greeting for her co-workers. Christy is always willing to step in and learn new things and always goes the extra mile to help her co-workers. She has recently been given more hours and has excelled every day since. Christy takes pride in her work and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our department. We are lucky to have her as an employee of the Food Service Department and the Lucerne Valley Unified School District.”
